With the housing market as bad as it is, downsizing might not be an option for you at the moment.  It might be better financially for you to remain in the house that you live in.  You can still downsize inside your home and make life & finances more manageable.  Over the next 31 days, I am going to take our home through a downsizing.

I was standing in our bedroom this morning and was just looking around the room while getting ready and I just got overwhelmed by the stuff that we have.  Things that have been sitting in drawers or shelves for over 2 years and we have not touched them except to get the dust off of them.  Why am I keeping items like that around?  They are not memories of the family, they are just stuff that I apparently valued at one time to keep.

God has been working on my heart for the past few months about how I value earthly possession more than I should.  I have never been one that wanted or needed items that were expensive or trendy but I am one that thinks I need multiples of items that I use.  For example, sitting in a drawer in my bedroom, I have a gallon size ziplock bag full of pens and pencils.  They have been there for over 2 years.  I have not once got a pen or pencil out of that bag. But I was saving it because I might need a pen one day or maybe the bag held pens that I know like to write with…..

Over the next 31 days, I am taking my home through a purging or downsizing if you will.  Some stuff needs to go to the trash, some to help others and some onto Craig’s list or Ebay.

How is this going to help with my life and finances?  My home will be more organized and also de-cluttered to where our lives will function better for what God has called us to do and as far as our finances go, I will be more aware of what I have in my home and will not repurchase (even if it is a great deal) when it is not needed.   The items I purge will either give me a tax receipt for donating it to a non-profit or money from the sale on Craig’s list or ebay.

This will start on Monday!
