I’m in the mood for……. gardening.

The weather is getting better, the rain is coming and the ground is getting primed for gardening.  By no means am I talking about flowers.  I am not a green thumb when it comes to flower gardens.  I don’t know why but I just can’t grow flowers.  They die.  Maybe it is because they require attention and all they give is beauty and not scrumptious veggies.   Who Knows!

This weekend is going to be a great time to get the garden area cleaned out!  I am even going to expand my area.  I am going to do the 1 foot X 1 foot gardening this year.  I am so excited.  I did it a little last year but really didn’t follow the guide lines.   This year I am going to be compliant and actually read how to do it.    Last year’s garden was a success but it did get a little out of hand because I didn’t plant exactly good neighbors next to each other so some of the veggies battled for room.

Plan this week to seek out your garden spot if you don’t have one and start getting the ground worked up.  I really suggest if you don’t have a garden spot that is already made for a garden to really consider doing the raised beds.  They are awesome and easy to do.

Here is a plan.

Plan a 3 X 6 Garden and if you want to get adventurous, just do two or three of them.  It doesn’t sound like a lot of room to plant in but a 3 X6 will yield 18 plants.

Watch this video to see what what you are going to need to build your raised garden. Her measurments are a little different than the bed that I am building but this is a good video to get the idea on how to build the bed.

To fill the bed, you will want to use a compost mixture. Check with your local mulch businesses and see what they have. You really don’t want to use top soil.
Also, if you get your wood from Home Depot or Lowes, they are great about making the cuts that you need. That way you don’t have to get your saw out.

Did you ever do this?

yes, I have now done this for two years in a row and really like it. It has yielded me quite a bit of veggies. I really wish I could be better at it but I am still learning.
