Did you know that 100% of the homes in the USA have mold in them? EWWWW! Yes, that is a true stat. Most homes don’t have extreme mold but all homes have some mold. The bathrooms are the worst for mold. The good news is that we can tackle this problem with just a few little changes in our cleaning habits. After hearing this stat, I wanted to scrub my bathrooms.
After checking out how to combat the mold, I have found that it is not a hard process and one that I should be doing that is just part of my regular bathroom cleaning.
Along with regular cleaning here is a few methods I have found that I think will work great with my cleaning schedule.
- Bleach and a toothbrush. Bleach and water mixture works great on grout and also around fixtures. Take 1 cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water. The only thing I don’t like about this is the bleach is so strong but it cuts the mold out quickly.
- Keep wash clothes cleaned up after showers and baths. Don’t leave wash clothes laying around after your bath or shower. Hang them to dry or put them in the wash. The moisture from the wet cloth just invites mold to grow.
- Love hot steamy showers? I do too! But this is an invitation to grow more mold. Don’t stop taking those showers but run your vent a little longer to clear out the steam. The steam is a welcoming invitation for mold to start growing . Mold loves heat. Run your vent while you are getting ready and then turn it off. This will get the air moving and will cool it down.

Keep a spray bottle of cleaner handy. I love Tilex and have used it for many years. It is great to cut the mold, scum and stains. You can use Tilex to clean up already existing mold and also a preventative to keep mold from growing.
